From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Sisters from El Salvador
In case I did not remember to tell you, the Sisters
from El Salvador were able to obtain their Visitors’
Visas to come to the U.S. and will be coming on
November 3rd and staying until November 7th.
They will meet with the Bishop and will spend a
little time in our community so that we can make a
good decision about whether the sisters will be able
to work here for at least the next three years. When
they come for their visit on November 3rd we will
decide at that time their starting date if in fact it
works out that they will be working in our parish. I
am excited about the prospect of having religious
sisters living and working in our parish on a full
time basis. They will be helping us with our catechism program, working with the parents of our
children, visiting the homes, forming leaders for
the community and offering retreats and days of
recollection. They will also be leading prayer services and assisting us with other duties as our community continues to grow. Please pray for the success of this endeavor. It would be very nice if the
sisters could arrive permanently this year before
the close of the Year of Religious Life as a way of
helping us to celebrate with thankful hearts the witness of religious women and men who have contributed so much to the life of the Catholic Church
over these many centuries.
Chapel Construction
You might not even have noticed but the construction workers have been steadily working on the St.
Toribio Chapel day after day. They arrive very
early and are usually gone each day by 3:00 p.m. or
3:30 p.m. The doors have been put into place, and
the stained glass windows are being produced and
the air conditioning duct work is being installed.
Father Juan Pablo is working on getting the altar
stone from San Miguel del Alto in Mexico up here
so that we can build the high altar. All the pieces
September 20, 2015
have been cut in Mexico and are now being prepared for transportation to Tulsa. It has been quite
a process. Who knows perhaps in another month or
so the chapel will be nearing completion. I am
hesitant to say when it will be finished as we have
had so many challenges and delays. We started the
Diocesan Sanctuary of St. Toribio Romo in 2008
and by 2010 we started work on collecting the
money and designing the chapel. It was supposed
to be finished by May 21st of this year but as you
know we had problems with the first construction
company and had to hire a new one/ Please consider giving another gift to us is possible so that we
can finish up the construction of the chapel and not
have any debt when we are finished. Just make the
check out to Sts. Peter and Paul parish and put
Chapel of St. Toribio Romo” on the memo of the
check. We need another $75,000.00 at least.
Forty Days of Life Begins Wednesday
This Wednesday on the Feast of St. Pio of Pietrelcina the Diocesan Forty Days for Life will start. It
is a time of prayer and fasting to overcome the sin
of abortion and rid ourselves of this terrible evil
that has afflicted our country since the legalization
of abortion by the Supreme Court in 1973. As
Mother Teresa of Calcutta said we will not have
peace until we overcome the sin of abortion. The
Reproductive Services of Tulsa is the site of the
silent protest that will continue uninterruptedly for
forty days and forty nights. Each year parishes and
organizations are asked to take a shift at the Abortion Center and pray for those committing the
crime of abortion and that the U.S. will finally recognize the right of life of the little unborn children.
Our particular shift as a parish will be from midnight on Friday, October 2nd to midnight on Saturday, October 3rd. The protest is peaceful and quiet.
It is not a time to shout or otherwise even speak
loudly. It is a silent protest of prayer and witness
through bodily presence. We recognize the innate
dignity of every human being and believe that all
human life is sacred and needs to be respected and
protected from conception to natural death. The
sacrifice we make in going to the abortion center to
pray will be richly rewarded by God.
RCIA Starts this Wednesday
This Wednesday is also the start of our RCIA
process to instruct those who are interested in joining the Catholic Church. It is also an opportunity
for others who would like to review the teachings
of our Church to receive a “refresher” course. The
RCIA will be offered every Wednesday thereafter
at 6:30 p.m. except during the holidays. You do
not have to register beforehand to attend. Just
show up at the Mother Teresa Room this Wednesday.
Youth Work Day
This coming Saturday, September 26th, we hope
to have a mini-work day for the youth of our parish so that they can make their contribution to the
life of the community. They will be cleaning windows, watering gardens as well as weeding them
and assisting with the clean-up in the Church.
Their work day will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at
2:00 p.m. with a lunch at noon. Let us know in the
parish office if you plan to attend.
God’s blessings upon each of you and I hope you
have a great week. Let us pray for one another.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Father Timothy Davison
Thanks everyone for the birthday
goodies, cards, and gifts! I am
sorry I can’t thank each of you
individually. God bless you and I
love you.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Toward the end of the second century, a
churchman in North Africa, Tertullian, described
an early form of penance. Imagine if it had survived! There were three steps to this very public
ritual. The unfortunate sinner was brought to the
community in an itchy garment of goat’s hair. The
communities of the day were small and intimate,
and everyone knew everyone else. The shame of
exposure for a big sin - murder, idolatry or adultery - would have been profound. The penitent
would beg the community for prayers of intercession, and then go sit in a place assigned to penitents. After this public confession, the penitent
would be assigned some discipline, usually a relatively severe fast, or the wearing of distinctive
garb. This remedy for sin was for a certain period
of time, or at least until the bishop (every small
community has its own bishop) judged that
enough was enough. Then the person would be
readmitted to the Eucharistic community, although
Tertullian doesn’t tell us how. Probably the bishop
tenderly placed his hands on their heads, precisely
where they were anointed at baptism. We do
know that the readmission of penitents to the Eucharistic table became in some churches a great
celebration, and there are records from Spain of
bishops leading penitents in a dance-like processional into the Eucharistic hall on Holy Thursday.

Del Párroco:
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en
Cristo,
Tal vez vamos a estar
almuerzo a medio día.
