Message for this Sunday: Hospitality. The concept of hospitality has had
various connotations over the centuries. In the 6th century Saint Benedict
wrote in his rule that his monks should receive the stranger as Christ himself. The abbeys were havens for the lonesome traveler. For centuries, men
and women have dedicated their lives as religious Brothers and Sisters to
welcoming the strangers and the suffering in their hospitals, which were centers of charity, real “guests houses.”
In our own time it is different. Though there are still a few sporadic
“hospices” run by sisters, and Christian denominations still operate hospitals
that bear their names. As a rule the stranger checks in at a motel and the sick
person is taken care of in the community hospitals, both paying for the service they receive.
However, hospitality is still a Christian form of Charity. Think of the families and communities who are involved in hospitality. How do we receive
our guests who come to visit us or come to worship with us? Thanks be to
God in OLGC we have hospitality ministry who share their time, love and
resources in attending to visitors and other parishioners in our Sunday liturgy.

DECIMO SEXTO DOMINGO EN EL TIEMPO ORDINARIO AÑO C
Mensaje para este Domingo: Hospitalidad. El concepto de hospitalidad ha
tenido diversas connotaciones a lo largo de los siglos. En el siglo 6 San Benito escribió en su regla de que sus monjes debían recibir al extraño como el
mismo Cristo. Los monasterios eran refugios para el viajero solitario. Durante siglos, los hombres y las mujeres han dedicado sus vidas como religiosos
Hermanos y Hermanas para dar la bienvenida a los extranjeros y el sufrido
en sus hospitales, que eran centros de caridad, verdaderamente "casas de
huéspedes."
En nuestro tiempo actual es diferente. Aunque todavía hay algunos esporádicos “hospicios" dirigidos por Hermanas, y denominaciones cristianas que
siguen funcionando en los hospitales que llevan sus nombres. Como regla
general el extranjero se hospeda en un motel y el enfermo es atendido en los
hospitales de la comunidad, ambos pagando por el servicio que reciben.
Sin embargo, la hospitalidad es todavía una forma cristiana de Caridad. Piense en las familias y comunidades que están involucradas en la hostelería.
¿Cómo recibimos a nuestros huéspedes que vienen a visitarnos o vienen a
adorar con nosotros? Gracias a Dios en OLGC tenemos el ministerio de hospitalidad que comparten su tiempo, amor y recursos en la atención a los visitantes y otros feligreses en nuestra liturgia dominical.

From the Pastor’s Desk
16th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C
(Continued from page 1)
A visit of friends can still be an enriching experience
for both the guest and the host and hostess, provided
that there is mutual openness and love. Many Christians make their living by welcoming strangers and the
sick: receptionists, waitresses, physicians, nurses. In
doing so they can practice service with a smile. That
smile could make their service Christian.
Today, let us reflect and pray for the hospitality ministry of our parish as they exercise their ministry toward
strangers regardless of race, color or creed and that the
good Lord will bless them and bless our parish.
Finally, our first reading and Gospel for this Sunday
deal with hospitality, and the stranger/guest was indeed
God/Christ himself. Remain blessed in hospitality and
that feeling of belonging which we all need to keep on
living the Christian life. Amen.

Una visita de amigos inclusive, puede ser una experiencia
enriquecedora tanto para el huésped como para el anfitrión
y la anfitriona, siempre que exista una apertura mutua y
amor. Muchos cristianos se ganan la vida dando la bienvenida a los extraños y los enfermos: recepcionistas, camareras, médicos, enfermeras. Al hacerlo, pueden practicar el
servicio con una sonrisa. Esa sonrisa puede hacer su servicio cristiano.
Hoy en día, vamos a reflexionar y a orar por el ministerio
de hospitalidad de nuestra parroquia mientras ejercen su
ministerio con el extranjeros independientemente de su raza, color o credo y para que el buen Señor los bendiga y
bendiga nuestra parroquia.
Por último, nuestra primera lectura y el Evangelio de este
domingo trata de la hospitalidad, y el extranjero / huésped
era de hecho Dios/Cristo mismo. Permanezcan bendecidos
en hospitalidad y ese sentimiento de pertenencia que todos
necesitamos para seguir viviendo la vida Cristiana. Amén.

we help to support the Church’s evangelizing
work in more than 1,150 mission dioceses worldwide. We are needed to offer daily prayer and
regular financial help as well.
Please join the Propagation of the Faith today.
Our parish will surely become more vibrant in
faith as we become more missionary.
