Several years ago here at St. Luke Parish, then transitional deacon Bert Mello encouraged many parishioners to get
involved at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility visiting the boys and men in their cottages and helping with the
Catholic worship group. Many got involved. That group continues on today. In fact I celebrated Mass a week ago for
almost a dozen men. They were excited about their faith, as well as in talking with myself and the handful of
volunteers who attended about their faith and their lives.
Hace muchos años atrás aquí en nuestra parroquia de San Lucas, el Diacono Bert Mello animó a muchos
feligreses a participar en la correccional juvenil de MacLaren visitando a los niños y hombres en sus
cabañas y ayudarles con el grupo de adoración católica. Muchos se involucraron. Este grupo todavía
continua hoy. De hecho celebre Misa hace una semana para casi una docena de hombres. Ellos
estaban emocionados acerca de su fe , así como en hablar conmigo y con unos cuantos voluntarios que
asistieron, sobre su fe y su vida .
Some of these boys and men have made big mistakes, but they are trying to live a
Christian life and to follow the plan that Christ has set before them. Whether you
know of someone in prison who you could visit, or you do not, the proximity of
MacLaren presents the ability to visit those in prison. With Hillcrest closing, the
population of MacLaren will double in the coming year. As Christ said, when we
visit those in prison, we visit him. Even St. Paul and many of the saints spent time
imprisoned for the faith.
Algunos de estos niños y hombres han cometido grandes errores, pero
están tratando de vivir una vida cristiana y seguir el plan que Cristo tiene

Today is Pentecost Sunday, Day 50 of our Easter
Season. We celebrate the day that the Church was born as
the Holy Spirit descended upon the Disciples as a strong
driving wind and as tongues of fire. We give thanks for
our young people and adults who have been confirmed
this week, receiving in greater force that Gift from above
that we have received in our Baptism. To be fully initiated members of the Church means we are called to further
the mission of Jesus, carrying the
Gospel to the ends of the Earth.
Yesterday, May 14, was another day of much joy, as we
witnessed the marriages of seven couples in a
communal celebration. We rejoice with…








MEMORIAL DAY MASS
We will be having a special mass for Memorial
Day at the St. Luke Cemetery on Monday, May
30th. Mass will be at 9:00am.
Hoy es Domingo de Pentecostés, día 50 de nuestra
temporada de Cuaresma. Celebramos el día en que la iglesia nació como el Espíritu Santo descendiendo
sobre los discípulos como fuerte viento. Damos gracias por
nuestros jóvenes y adultos quienes recibieron el
sacramento de la confirmación esta semana, recibiendo
con mayor fuerza el don de lo alto que recibimos en
nuestro bautismo. Ser miembros plenamente iniciados en
la iglesia, significándose que estamos llamados a continuar
la misión de Jesús , llevando el Evangelio hasta los fines
de la Tierra.
Ayer, 12 de Mayo era otro día de alegría, hemos sido
testigos de los matrimonios de siete parejas en una

FREE SEMINAR
Mark your calendar! On May 24th from 9:30-11:30 St. Luke Church will be hosting
an Estate Planning seminar presented by Carmen Gasten from the Archdiocese
and our own local experts, Kirk Schmidtman and Linda Reinsch. This event will
help to answer questions regarding wills, trusts, planned giving, health directives,
powers of attorney, HIPAA, and much more. Refreshments will be provided and
door prizes will be drawn and given away! Contact Eddie Caudel at the Church

We are planning a volunteer appreciation dinner/BBQ
for all the volunteers within our parish. Lectors,
ministers, altar servers, ushers, greeters, choirs,
catechist, money counters, office help, cleaning crew,
& etc are welcome to come. The dinner/BBQ will be on
Saturday, June 11th after the 5:00pm mass.
