et again in Ordinary Time, Jesus seems to demand extraordinary commitment. A would-be
disciple enthusiastically volunteers to follow Jesus “wherever” (Luke 9:57). Jesus replies that
“wherever” means “nowhere to rest his head” (9:58).
To other candidates, Jesus brusquely denies reasonable
requests to fulfill family obligations (9:59, 61), declaring that discipleship demands total commitment—now!
But Jesus also demands that we not judge how others
respond. When James and John volunteered to “call
down fire from heaven” (9:54) to destroy an unwelcoming town, Jesus “turned and rebuked them” (9:55). All
violence of any kind is completely unacceptable among
Jesus’ disciples, a lesson this Jubilee Year of Mercy is
teaching the Christian community once again. Paul’s
challenge to the Galatians and us reinforces Jesus’ decisive command to James and John that they express their
commitment to him through compassion for others. We
must abandon the violence of “biting and devouring
one another” (Galatians 5:15), choosing instead to
“serve one another through love” (5:13).

E
n este, un domingo más del Tiempo Ordinario,
parece que Jesús exige un compromiso extraordinario. Un aspirante entusiasmado a ser discípulo se ofrece de voluntario para seguir a Jesús “a donde sea” (Lucas 9:57). Jesús le contesta que “a donde
sea” significa “no tener donde recostar la cabeza” (9:58). A otros aspirantes, Jesús bruscamente niega
sus peticiones para seguirlo pues les antepone razonablemente sus responsabilidades y obligaciones familiares (9:59, 61), expresando que ahora ser discípulo exige
compromiso completo. Pero Jesús también exige que
no juzguemos cómo responden otras personas. Cuando
Santiago y Juan se ofrecen para “hacer caer fuego del
cielo” (9:54) para destruir una ciudad que no los recibió, Jesús “los reprende” (9:55). Cualquier tipo de violencia es completamente inaceptable entre los discípulos de Jesús, una lección este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia es enseñar una vez más a la comunidad cristiana.
El desafío de Pablo a los gálatas y a nosotros refuerza

have heard all these things before, but
maybe today Christ is saying something special to
you. Does it ever strike you how we hear the
same readings every three years and yet they can
hear something special each time we hear them?
That is the power of the WORD.

Discipleship is something we choose each
day. St. Francis de Sales asks us to give God
"this" day, to offer God the good we will do
or accept the difficulty we might encounter
today. Follow Jesus resolutely. Live your
commitment to him now, not "later", not "after",
not "until". His Spirit will help you face any
difficulty that comes your way.
El discipulado es algo que elegimos cada día.
San Francisco de Sales nos pide a que
ofrezcamos “este” día a Dios, ofrecer cada
acto bueno que hacemos y cada dificultad
que podamos tener. Sigue a Jesús a toda
medida. Vive tu compromiso a Jesús el día

Peter’s Pence Collection, which provides Pope
Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his
charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the
margins of society, including victims of war,
oppression, and disasters. Join our Holy Father as a witness of charity to those who are suffering.

The men were very pleased
with the special hot meal served
just to them, the gift bag filled
with tee shirts and toiletries
and clothing. We could tell they
had a wonderful day by the
smiles and heart warming facial
expressions. Your thoughtfulness made a huge difference for
our men guests. Amen.

Area with a keepsake book and

Banks's 100th Birthday. On July
Happy Fourth of July
12 20016 Annie will celebrate
her 100th Birthday. Sunday July
10, 2016 all are invited when
the church will honor and celebrate Annie at the 8:30 AM
mass followed by a reception in
the Placita area. (the banner will
be on display then) Annie was
born in Los Angeles California
and is a Jefferson High School
class of 1933 graduate.
( Jefferson Graduates can wear
where their school colors if they
want). Annie is still an active
participant with her sister Vergie
Fixico and Vergie's daughters
each week at the 8:30AM
mass. Yep she climbs the entry
steps on Adams and then uses
her walker to the pew.
Thank you reaching out to ensure that our Saturday children
have cereal and sandwich makings during the week while they


are on summer break. It is a welcomed blessings for our families
with children. The wagon will
be out each Sunday near the
rectory side entry to the church
for your donations of cereal,
peanut butter and jelly and any
other addition that you would
like to add. If you can catch
school supplies on sale they can
also be placed in the wagons.
Please this week attempt to let
the God in you light your path
and lead your way The God in
you can lead you to have no fear
or reluctance in reaching out to
pass on blessings to those you
meet. You will be comfortable
in greeting others with a smile,
how ya doing and kindness
maybe even a hug. You will
look through God's eyes and not
see or judge a person because
they don't look like you, speak

as you, they too like you are a
child of God and want not to be
judged or cast aside and looked
down on. Family the " Golden
Rule" is so important to think
about and lean on. Try , this

blessing as you join forces
with other prayer warriors in
asking God to provide us with
unity and peace for ALL everywhere on this earth.
