Yet, like the Prodigal Son we are often lured away by the materialism of our society. Do we really want to turn our backs on all that God offers in exchange for a material wealth that has no lasting value? Sat., Sep. 10 5:30 PM 7:00 PM Sun., Sep. 11 9:00 AM Wed., Sep 14 9:30 AM Thur., Sep. 15 9:00 AM Sat., Sep 17 5:30 PM 7:00 PM Lost sheep. Lost coin. Lost child. Losing a possession is one thing. Losing one’s way is something else. Today’s examples: (1) The people of Exodus so lost their way to God, they turned to a molten calf of their own design. Worshiping something that is not God is idolatry, is deep down infidelity, is mistrust of God. Moses pleads for these stiff-necked people. And, God relents; God does not punish. (2) The prodigal son thought owning things and going far off was the way to live. He comes to his senses and returns home and finds his father — filled with compassion — running to embrace him. The point: it is God’s very nature to relent, to exude compassion, to run to us, to love. How can I be like God today? For whom will I plead today? Whom will I run to embrace? Our Sick Need your Prayers Ali Acosta, Rita Bastress, Tom Bastress, Betty Bell, Mary Coffman, Robert Fisher, Steve Gillotti, Carol Graham, Bonita Heckman, Tom Heckman, Katie Horn, Greg Karjala, Jr., Susan Marher, Linda McGuire, Dorothy Nicholson, Sue Phillips, Cindy Ray, Dave Ross, Jonathan Saucedo, Ray Seth, Betty Sherman and Joan Steinlage. Please pray for our Armed Forces and their families: Cameron Baylis, Specialist Trent Gordon, 1st. Lieutenant Michael Hughes, 1st lieutenant Stephen Hughes, Will McCuddy, Alex Strycula, Senior Airman Jordan Trick, Kaleb Turner, Staff Sargent Monik Trick and Sgt. Meghan Vaccaro. To add or remove someone from the prayer or military list, call 8453121 or email: [email protected]. Names will be removed after three months unless removed sooner by request. As a people of God, let us come to their aid. Archbishop Joseph E, Kurtz, USCCB President, encourages Catholics across the United States to respond generously. Our prayer and material support is urgently needed to help rebuild lives. Ruah Woods offers an exciting new ministry to men and women who have suffered from divorce. The Catholic’s Divorce Survival Guide is a twelve-week program featuring thirty-minute DVD sessions each week that cover topics of shock, denial, anger, grief, guilt, forgiveness, money, the courts, the kids, the ex-spouse, annulment, dating, sexuality, spirituality, remarriage or staying single and much more. Whether you got divorced ten days ago or ten or more years ago, the program offers valuable insight for everyone. Contact Donna or Lynn at 513-407-8672, [email protected], or go to www.ruahwoods.org. Singers and Instrumentalists Adults & Teens (Children’s choir will be in November!) You are invited to help make music for our worship at Sacred Heart Church. We also need people to play instruments: string, woodwind, brass, keyboard, guitar, percussion, hand chimes. We use these instruments on special occasions. We need solo singers to cantor. If you are interested, please stop by the organ after Mass or contact Kristen Kosey at [email protected]. Join the Church in being a visible witness to the healing presence of Jesus alive in the world. Whether your donation is large or small, let us also be sure those suffering feel the power of our prayer to sustain them in the difficult days ahead. We will take up a special second collection at all the Masses this weekend. Checks should be payable to Sacred Heart and marked for the Louisiana collection.
