DEADLINE JANUARY 30. Learn in detail about bills before the General Assembly that your bishop has identified as important because of their impact on human life and dignity. The workshops on Monday afternoon will help you be the prophet needed in our world to speak to legislators and encourage them to vote in ways that reflect God’s values. This annual observance is a joint project of the National Catholic Educational Association, the world’s largest private professional education association, and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the national public policy organization of the U.S. Bishops. The theme for this year’s celebration succinctly expresses the three priorities that make Catholic schools stand out from other educational institutions; FAITH, ACADEMICS, and SERVICE. Our mission statement also reflects these three themes: “The Mission of St. Joseph Interparochial School is to teach as Jesus did, challenging students to embrace the Gospel message, to achieve their academic best and to make a positive difference in the world.” During Catholic Schools Week we have several activities planned that also reflect the theme for the week. We will begin Monday with morning prayer and we will have Eucharistic Adoration from 8:30 until 2:15 in the church. Our students will all spend time in prayer during the adoration and we invite all of our parents and St. Joseph parishioners to join us. The adoration will end with Benediction at 2:15. We will also celebrate mass together on Tuesday at 9:30, as we do each week and on Friday we will have a prayer service at 8:05 in honor of our school volunteers and to have our throats blessed for the Feast of St. Blaise. We have several service projects planned which include a coin drive for the Interfaith M.E.A.L.S. program, the students will be making Valentines and care packages for our service men and women serving in Afghanistan, and the teachers will be putting together “Fat Tuesday” care packages for our Seminarians from the Diocese of Owensboro who are at St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana and St. John Vianney College Seminary in Minnesota. Our students will learn about Vocations to the priesthood, religious life, and the permanent diaconate program by hearing presentations from our priests, Matthew Keyser, and Sister Rita Davis, a Sister of Charity from Nazareth who is also an alumnus of St. Joseph School. Of course we have some fun events scheduled such as a Pep Rally for our basketball teams and academic teams, DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) Day, and BINGO (an annual event)! On Thursday we will host a Catholic Schools Week Open House from 8:30 until 2:30. You are all invited to come and see how we live our mission at St. Joseph School. More information is in today’s bulletin. On behalf of the St. Joseph School Family, I would like to say thank you to St. Joseph Parish for your continued financial and spiritual support. Through the dedication and commitment of our teachers, staff, administration, council members, parents, volunteers, and parishioners, our students are learning in a culture of faith, academics, and service that is preparing them for a full life in their families, communities, and the Catholic Church.
