FIFTH SUNDAY of LENT

From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
It seems hard to believe that three months have already gone by since we began this Year of Mercy on
December 8th in union with the whole Church.
I hope that all of you are receiving many graces from God at this time and most especially as we prepare for Easter.
Don’t forget that you have the possibility of receiving a plenary indulgence. The Holy Doors are open at
St. Simon and Jude Cathedral in Phoenix and at Holy Cross Church in Sedona. A plenary indulgence
wipes away the temporal punishment we deserve for our sins. It does not forgive our sins though. That
is why in order to receive it properly we must be in the state of grace, having gone to confession within
20 days before or after going through the doors, and also receiving communion within those days. It is
also necessary to say a prayer for the Holy Father while doing the devotion and to be detached from all
forms of sin in our lives.
An indulgence is not magic. It is an opportunity for me to rectify my own life and commit to living more
fully the will of God in my heart. Just walking through the doors without having the right dispositions is
no better then walking through any other door. But, walking through them as the Church teaches can
bring great benefit to my own soul or to the soul of a loved one who has died if I wish to offer it for
them. I hope you will all take advantage of this opportunity.

Estimados Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,
No puedo creer que ya han pasado tres meses desde el comienzo del Año de Misericordia el día 8 de
diciembre en unión con toda la Iglesia.
Espero que todos ustedes estén recibiendo muchas gracias de Dios en este tiempo y especialmente
ahora en Cuaresma en preparación para la Pascua.
No se olviden que tienen la posibilidad de recibir una indulgencia plenaria. Las Puertas Santas están
abiertas en la Catedral de Santos Simon y Judas en Phoenix y también en la Iglesia de la Santa Cruz
en Sedona. Una indulgencia plenaria borra la pena temporal que merecemos por el pecado. No
perdona el pecado. Por eso, es necesario estar en gracia para recibirlo debidamente y por ello
tenemos que confesarnos y comulgar dentro de 20 días antes o después de pasar por las puertas.
También es necesario rezar por las intenciones del Papa y desprenderme de todo pecado en mi vida.
La indulgencia no es mágica. Es una oportunidad para rectificar mi vida con Dios y comprometerme
con él en mi corazón. Simplemente pasando por las puertas sin estar en las disposiciones correctas no
tiene ningún efecto. Pero pasar por ellas como la Iglesia nos enseña puede traer grande beneficio a su
alma o al alma de un ser querido difunto si lo ofrezco por ellos. Espero que todos aprovechan de esta
oportunidad.

For Palm Sunday
Parishioners, we are going to need fresh Palms for
Palm Sunday March 20th - 2016. The fresh cut
palms need to be at the Ramada by 9:00am on Friday March 18th and Saturday the 19th of March by
9:00am. They need to be ready for the First Mass on
Saturday at 5:00pm. We are going to need Fresh
Palms to decorate the church on Friday March 18th
in the morning at 9:30am. We are also going to need
your help in preparing the palms at the Ramada on
Saturday March 19th at 9:00am. If you can bring
palms and help, please call Ramona at the parish

Next week, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services
Collection. This collection supports six Catholic agencies that
touch more than 100 million lives around the world. The funds
from this collection help provide food to the hungry, support to
displaced refugees, and Christ’s love and respect to all people.
Next week, please give generously to The Catholic Relief Services
Collection and help Jesus in disguise.

Through you almsgiving you are performing a good work—far greater than
you think. Know that your dollars—
great or small—is multiplied by the
dollars of many others placed into the
SVdP Collection.
Let’s remember those who are ill at home or in
Nursing homes and we ask for your prayers. Their names
are in the Prayer Intention’s book in the Adoration
Chapel
